Sudan’s humanitarian crisis slips further from sight

This is an opportunity to hear from three experienced humanitarian leaders who are on the frontline of the humanitarian response in Sudan. They will highlight what is needed to avoid potential catastrophic scenarios in the next 12 months, including the requirement for different operating models and the importance of increasing international engagement in Sudan.

After 200 days of war in Sudan, the world is looking elsewhere while the humanitarian situation in Sudan continues to deteriorate. Over 9,000 people have been killed, and over 5.6 million have been forced from their homes. Diplomatic efforts to find political solutions continue in Jeddah and Addis, but these talks are undermined by increased fighting across Darfur and Kordofan states, in particular. Aid efforts continue to be hampered by insecurity, access restrictions and inadequate funding. Despite the efforts of humanitarian actors (particularly local responders), significant challenges lie ahead – including mass civilian atrocities, a collapsing health and education system, and spiralling food insecurity.
