Sudan Humanitarian Zones

Sudan is facing a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented scale and complexity mid-April 2023, when the violent conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed and injured thousands of people and displaced millions of others, both within Sudan and to neighbouring countries.

More than 4.1 million people have been internally displaced internally, and have taken refuge in 3,733 locations across all 18 states. Another 1 million people have crossed Sudan’s borders into Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan, where they face harsh conditions and limited assistance.

OCHA reports that almost 20.3 million people across Sudan are acutely food insecure and need food and livelihood assistance.

The conflict has also disrupted access to basic services such as water, health care, fuel and cash. Most of the country’s health facilities are no longer operational, severely limiting access to urgent medical services for millions of people. The humanitarian response faces many challenges, including insecurity, access constraints, funding shortfalls and government restrictions. More funding and support are urgently needed to address the growing urgent needs.
